A Professor of Pharmacology and also Head of Pharmacology at Benson Carson School of Medicine, Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, Professor Oladapo Walker, has revealed that not less than 100,000 women die annually from the dreaded cervical cancer disease.

He said the disease is on the increase due to the poverty of ideas and mind of the victims.
Cervical cancer has as long as 20years latent period, starting with chronic infection of a virus, type 16 or 18, both of which are carcinogenic.

It develops into bleeding, foul smelly vagina discharge, by which time it is too late.

This is why screening is of utmost importance for early detection.
He advised that Government should put policy in place for routine screening.
