11 medical doctors were arraigned before the Disciplinary Tribunal of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) for trial yesterday for carrying out various offences contrary to the ethics of their profession
One of the arraigned doctors being tried is the medical director, Taraba State Specialist Hospital, Dr Zakari Aliyu, who was alleged to have divulged information to the press on the health status of Governor Danbaba Suntai contrary to the ethics of his profession.
Another is a senior medical officer of the Cottage Hospital, Ekpene Obo village, Akwa Ibom, Dr David Emmanuel Udo, who allegedly diverted patients to his private clinic when he is not licensed to do so.
He is being arraigned on a six count charge of owning a private clinic, diverting patients to his clinic, carrying out a major surgery on one Mrs Imaobong Ime Archibong and releasing her medical history which is confidential to be published.
Others include a pediatric surgeon and owner of a private hospital, Abram Vineyard Clinic, Enugu, Dr Godwin, who is being tried on a three-count charge of negligently performing a major surgery of prostatectomy on one Mr. Alexandra Chibueze without keeping proper record of the management of the patient.
