The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong, has said that the Memorandum of Understanding for the running of the hospital could not be implemented due to the economic recession in the country; hence it was shut down.
The MoU was between the State Government and Cardiocare Medical Services Ltd, the latter managed the hospital until its closure.
According to him meetings were held with the Management team at the instance of  the former State Governor, Senator Godwill Akpabio with a view to drawing up a fresh MOU that would recognize the present economic situation but the meetings failed to resolve the issue  to the satisfaction of the management team, Cardiocare Medicaal Services.
The commissioner added that the hospital was shut down by the management team without informing the state government of such closure, it only sent a letter of withdrawal of services.
