About 56 percent of girls aged 15-19 years and 30 percent of boys aged 15-19 years in India are anaemic that is short of blood. This is due low iron content in the body and contained in the National Family Health Survey report for the period covering 2005-2006 but re-echoed in the India Health Report Nutrition 2015.

To address the anomaly, an iron supplement program has been initiated, the program covers all secondary schools in the country both rural and urban.

 

India has about 253 million adolescents.
