Abaji, Bwari inaugurates Polio eradication committees.

The chairman of Bwari area council, Musa Dikko yesterday inaugurated a task force on polio eradication and routine immunization following the recent outbreak of wild Polio in the Northern part of the country.

Speaking during the inauguration, Dikko has said that Government is committed towards ensuring that polio is eradicated in the country and certify polio free, adding that it was in the line of that the FCT minister recently inaugurated the FCT Task Force on polio eradication and hence the need to replicate same at the area council level.

He expressed concern over rejection of immunization by some communities, including religious houses, reiterating that the committee headed by him has representation of Christian Association of Nigerian (CAN) and the Chief Imam to ensure compliance.

He stressed that the inauguration was timely considering reported outbreak of three new cases of wild polio in Borno State, adding that the committee must take the assignment seriously.

Also speaking, a representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Soji-Taiwo Bukola, charged those in supervisory position to take the assignment seriously, adding that deformity associated with polio is such that one infected child has the capacity of infecting 200 others. She called on the committee to pay more attention to persons under 15 years of age, adding that the task of monitoring the quality of immunization activities required the participation of all.
