According to new study just pubished in Journal Ophthalmology, about 5 billion people roughly half the world’s population will be short sighted by 2050; the study was conducted by scientists at Brien Holden Research Institute, University of New south Wales, Australia  and  Singapore Eye Research Institute, Singapore.

The researchers attribut the increase in prevalence of the condition to more time spent indoors and the increase in near-based activities such as use of computers and mobile devices.
They suggest frequent eye examinantions by optometrists or ophthalmologists, use of corrective lenses and change in life styles with less near–based activities and more out door activities will help reduce the prevalence.
