Botswana Public Officers Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS) has donated P100 000 to the Medical Practitioners Group (MPG). The funds would go towards MPG’s community projects and the annual fund raising dinner.

MPG, in the past, engaged in community projects by raising funds for charitable organisations with some of their beneficiaries being SOS, President Housing Appeal and Tsogang trust among others.

This year, Cancer Association Botswana (CAB) will benefit from the funds raised at the dinner to be held on May 2. Speaking at a press conference in Gaborone MPG chairperson, Dr Gagoitsiwe Saleshando said the Annual MPG fund raising dinner dance being held after the international Labour Day would be an opportunity to recognise and celebrate health workers in Botswana. “This event is important for networking among us as doctors and the extended industry partners and also key in our efforts of mobilising of funds for the benefit of the less fortunate in our society,” he said.

Dr Saleshando stated that the health sector has many players and for them to get results, different members have to know each other and be able to work well together. He said they have taken up the challenge of negotiating lower rates with service providers to make health affordable and accessible to Batswana. Associated Funds Administrators (AFA) Sales and Marketing manager, Mr Scelo Hlope said the donation was part of their Corporate Social Responsibility projects as they continue to empower the community.

He stated that BPOMAS partnered with MPG from way back, adding that a total of over P1 million had been donated over the years. Mr Hlope commended BPOMAS for helping the vulnerable and needy adding that this year’s beneficiaries, Cancer Association Botswana is fitting as BPOMAS also has a health cover for their members to be treated for cancer to an amount of P300 000. CAB board member and founder, Ms Barbara Garland said such donations help them to assist those affected by the scourge as they go through treatment
