1. Child malnutrition cost Ghana more than $2 billion annually-study.

A study led by the African Union and backed by the UN Aid Agency and the African Development Bank has revealed that Ghana’s economy is losing more than two billion dollars a year due to impact of child malnutrition which has driven up healthcare costs, strained the educational system and hindered the productivity of the workforce.

 The study also said that under nutrition among children costs Ghana $2.6 billi9on per year- 6.4 percent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) The Deputy Regional Director for West and Central Africa of the World Food Programme (WFP) has said that in Northern Ghana, 30 percent of children under five years are stunted or chronically malnourished and this does not only affect their growth but also the educational development, economic potentials and consequently the future of the country.
