The Northeast of China which is home to industries moving the country has been under a blanket of smog in the last four days prompting authorities to advise residents to remain indoors. This is due to coal powered industries and heating systems apparently working extra for the end of year activities but made worse by lack of wind and humidity.

The air pollution level is said to be about 17 times higher than the World Health Organization allowable level.

Air pollution increases risk for respiratory diseases among others.

Some factories have advised to shut down temporarily.
