Cholera outbreak which has spread to several states in two geographical zones in the North of Nigeria has reached Lagos State.

According to the Lagos State Commissioners for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, three persons infected with cholera have died in Badia area of Apapa LGA. Other LGAs affected by the outbreak are Ajeromi, Lagos Island, Oshodi-Isolo and Surulere, bringing the total number of affected LGAs to five. Many cases responded well to treatment and have been discharged according to the Commissioner.

Meanwhile, Jigawa State is prepared to combat any outbreak in the state. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tafida Abubakar said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse, the State Capital, that a rapid response team has been put in place together with appropriate and adequate medicines/supplies in readiness for any outbreak
