Prof. Ignatius Onimawo, former president, Nutrition Society of Nigeria has explained that there are health risks associated with consuming spilled cooking oil, especially if was scooped from a dirty environment contaminated with bitumen and other metallic objects as it happened recently on the Lagos/Ibadan expressway.
The Nutritionist said heat can destroy the immediate effect of gastrointestinal infections but not the heavy metals used in road construction which can lead to cancer and other deadly diseases. And so a call has been made to the relevant Government agencies to come to the aid of unsuspecting public by creating awareness and possible prosecution as the case maybe.
