Dirty currency notes can help to spread diseases, doctors have said. The Naira note can get so dirty and slightly wet especially with women in the market who keep money in their bra for safety. Such notes are usually wet from sweat. Germs can get onto currency notes from contaminated hands on using the toilet without washing the hands after, during sneezing/coughing and those who apply saliva to their hands before counting money.

Common diseases that can be transmitted include catarrh, diarrhoea, cholera, measles, chicken pox and all other diseases that can be transmitted due to poor hand hygiene.

Persons are advised to wash their hands with soap and water after handling currency notes especially dirty and wet ones.
