As part of the efforts to prevent the spread of the deadly Ebola virus to the state, the Edo State Government on Monday inaugurated a Rapid Response Committee. Membership of the committee is drawn from the state Ministries of Health, Information and Orientation, Local Government and Agriculture and Education. Others include personnel from the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Irrua Teaching Hospital (ITH), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS), WHO, UNICEF and other relevant institutions in the state. Speaking at the inauguration, Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Aihanuwa Eregie, said the membership of the committee was chosen to reflect the diversity of the state to tackle the EVD.
