The Ebonyi Government has commenced the construction of multi-billion naira water projects in the state as part of efforts to provide potable water for the people.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Utilities, Mr Felix Mkpumah,made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki on Thursday.
Mkpumah said the projects included the construction of the multi-billion naira Oferekpe and Ukawu mega schemes and the rehabilitation of the Ezillo water scheme in Abakaliki.
Mkpumah,who did not disclose the cost of the projects, said that they were at various stages of development.
The permanent secretary said that when completed, water would be reticulated to all parts of the state capital and some local government areas.
The state government is at the driver’s seat to ensure stable distribution of potable water to all parts of the state.’’
Mkpumah said that the government was also in the process of establishing a water pipe making machine to ensure efficient delivery of water supply to its people.
We are pursuing water and electricity as major responsibilities to the people. We shall continue to work assiduously to achieve it.’’
The permanent secretary, however, appealed to residents of the state to support the government by paying their utility bills as at when due.
