Ebonyi State government is to key into the programmes of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to reduce mortality and enhance the well being of Ebonyi women and children.

The state Governor, Chief Dave Umahi, disclosed this during a courtesy call by the  Resident representative of the UNFPA, Mrs. Ratidzai Ndhiovu, at Government House, Abakaliki, on Thursday, August 13, 2015.

The governor, who acknowledged the enormous benefits the state had derived from UNFPA, reiterated the determination of his administration to tackle issues that militate against Maternal and Child health care delivery in the state, saying that his effort was to ensure that no pregnant woman dies during child birth.

He appealed to the agency to continue with its drug supply to the state as incidences of adulterated and fake drugs in circulation in the country hamper effective healthcare delivery.

The governor said that power was one of the key factors that drives the primary healthcare and called on the agency to include provision of electricity in its mandate as this would go a long way in the preservation and storage of drugs as well as conducting of tests that require urgent attention in the hospitals
