Some dentists practicing in England have described the NHS dental system as outdated and third world.

In a letter signed by about 400 dentists, they said the situation had deteriorated to such a level that dental charities which normally render services in third world countries are requesting to help. Dentaid is one of such.

According to them, most children under 10 years who report to hospital for ill health go there for tooth decay more than any other illness. Furthermore, about 48 percent of adults and 31 percent of children have not been able to see a dentist in the last two years.

However, the NHS has countered this, saying that about 93 percent of those who wanted to see a dentist in the last twenty four months did so.
