Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, President Mulatu Teshome said the completion of the project is a great step forward in improving access to modern health care in Ethiopia. The Ethiopian Government considers health care as an essential package of social and economic development as well as an instrument for social justice and equity. Hundreds of new hospitals of different levels have been constructed in different regions throughout the country, according to the president.

“Our Growth and Transformation Plan II provides due emphasis to the expansion of the hospital sector in responding to changes in disease patterns and in meeting the public’s expectation for advanced quality of health services,” Mulatu noted. He said the new expansion of additional facilities reaffirms the hospital’s commitment to strive for excellence in quality health care provision.

South Korean Ambassador to Ethiopia, Kim Moon-hwan said on his part the MCM hospital has high technology equipment and will scale up Ethiopian health standard to high level. The opening of the hospital has strengthened the long standing ties between the governments of Ethiopia and Korea, he added. According to Reverend Samwhan Kim of the Korean MyungSung Presbyterian Church, the hospital is a token of “our gratitude for the sacrifices of the Ethiopian veterans who participated in the Korean War during 1950-1953.
