The Federal Government has been urged to ensure the promulgation of legislation on Cancer Control Plan (CCP) for the country.
The call was made on Tuesday in Ibadan by Prof. Femi Ogunbiyi, Director, Ibadan Cancer Registry, in an interview with the pressmen.
Ogunbiyi, who is also the Vice President, African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer, said if CCP was passed into law; it would ensure compulsory registration of all cancer cases in the country.
He said that CCP was a document developed by the African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer, for African countries.
He said that the association wanted the document adopted by African countries to ensure easy registration of cancer cases.
He said that cancer, by WHO standard, was the leading cause of death in the world, adding that the exact burden of the disease was unknown.
Ogunbiyi said the proposed legislation would ensure a positive change in the acquisition of data to make cancer registries functioned effectively.
