At the Health summit recently held in Lagos, Themed:  Lipids and Cardiovascular Health in Nigerian population” aimed at looking particularly at the role of palm oil which forms the basis of Nigerian oil for cooking and its possible benefit and effect, experts have endorsed palm oil as Heart friendly adding that it contains Antioxidants, Beta-carotene, Tocotrienols and Tocopherols among others in its crude red forms, and has about 40 percent Oleic acid which has been demonstrated in several studies to have beneficial effect on Serum Lipids and Cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Prof. Osaretin Odia of the Department of Medicine, University of Port Harcourt also added that palm oil is a refined version of raw oil from palm fruits which retains a significant amount of Carotenoids and Vitamins that are Heart friendly.
