FG inaugurates taskforce to resolve health, nutrition, environment challenges in North East
When he visited the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Alh. Usman Mamman Durkwa, The Minister Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, disclosed that The Federal Govern¬ment has constituted a task force to resolve the health, environment, wa¬ter and nutrition challenges in the north east and the budget for the pro¬gramme have since been ap¬proved, the work plan is cur¬rently being developed and will soon swing into action in the affected states.
The task force has been giv¬en the mandate to provide quick solution to the challeng¬es of the region, and the task force is being co¬ordinated by the office of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo while the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma is the Chairman.
According to Adewole, each of the components of water, health, environment is headed by a Minister, explaining that the Minister of Health is coor¬dinating health and nutrition components of the task force, and The task force, he explained, would work in Borno , Yobe and Adamawa with more em¬phasis on Borno State.
The Task force which will work under the umbrel¬la of the Presidential Initiative for the North-East, Adewole said, will soon be inaugurat¬ed by President Muhamma¬du Buhari, and He particular commended the Federal Ministry of Health for providing health commod¬ities to the state.
The health minister there¬fore revealed that his minis¬try has provided health com¬modities worth about N1.2 billion to Borno State. “The first consignment was for about N400,000 million and is already in Maiduguri and the second batch would fol¬low later,” he said
Speaking on this, the Borno State Deputy Governor, Alh. Us¬man Mamman Durkwa, ap¬plauded the efforts of the Fed¬eral Government in rebuilding the north east.
