Self testing HIV test kits will be available to the public in France from 2014 in a strategy aimed at reducing the spread of the disease.
The test kit uses a drop of blood from a finger pricks or swab sample from the mouth to detect anti-bodies to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The result is within 30 minutes.
France had 6,100 new infections of HIV in 2011 and official estimate puts the total number of persons with the virus in France at 40,000.
