The Sunyani Municipal National Health Insurance Scheme Manager, Patrick Kuagbenu, says effective health care is not all about the administration of drugs, but the prioritisation of personal and environmental hygiene, coupled with good eating habits and enough rest.

He has, therefore, advised against the passion for medical prescriptions, saying, “It’s not all about drugs.”

Speaking at a community durbar organised at New Dormaa, a suburb of Sunyani, Mr. Kuagbenu indicated that most patients feel disappointed when they are denied medications, because of the belief that healthcare is all about the administration and issuance of drugs. He advised patients and the general public not to be disappointed when medical doctors fail to prescribe medicines for them whenever they visit the hospital or any health facility.

The Sunyani NHIS Manager hinted that most of the drugs or medications have serious side effects if their intake is not regularised.
