The Minister for Health, Mr Alex Segbefia, has disclosed that the Ministry, between May and June 2015, posted 268 newly trained doctors to all teaching and some regional hospitals to begin their first year housemanship program. The Minister made this known on the floor of Parliament today in a response to a question filed by Mr. Frank Boakye Agyen, Hon Member of Parliament for Effiduase /Asokore on the number of newly trained Ghanaian medical doctors deployed to the various health facilities across the country.

He said the postings, which is in compliance with the medical and dental council’s requirement, brings the total number of doctors posted since September 2014 to 486, adding that the number is made up of dental and medical officers from all the medical schools in Ghana and abroad.

He explained that the delays in the postings was as a result of the time gap in the biometric registration process at the Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD) and assured that the Ministry was working closely with the Ministry of Finance and the CAGD to shorten the process. “Mr Speaker the ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of Finance and the Accountant General’s Department to shorten the period of registration so that people can be paid quickly,” he said. In a response to another by question on measures being put in place to provide additional ward for the Atebubu /Amantin District Hospital, the Minister assured that the ministry was negotiating for concessionary funding from several Financiers to construct and expand district hospitals nationwide. He disclosed that the Atebubu District hospital has been ranked the 2nd in the Bring Ahafo Region for expansion.

In another development, the Millennium Development Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2014 was ushered through its second reading granting it a safe passage for the consideration of proposed amendments.
