Governor Wants Doubling of Efforts in Fight against HIV/Aids in Angola.
At the provincial government meeting, the governor of the eastern Lunda Sul Province, Cândida Narciso, last Monday reiterated the appeal to society as to the need of doubling efforts to boost sensitisation campaigns on HIV/Aids,

through the holding of lectures in the communities and schools, touching on issues like forms of prevention, causes and consequences of this disease, and the members of this local executive analysed the level of fulfilment of the recommendations from the previous gathering, the local epidemiological situation and strategies to decrease the HIV/Aids prevalence. The meeting, which involved also members of the Provincial Committee of Fight against HIV/Aids, was intended to pass information on the current situation regarding this disease in this region, and On the occasion, Governor Cândida Narciso appealed to the citizens to resort to health units and do the HIV test, so that they can be sure of their serological state. In his turn, the provincial health director in Lunda Sul, Costa Samuquinda, informed that from last January up to the present date, the province carried out 34,174 HIV/Aids test, having been diagnosed 1,702 positive cases, 1,480 of who have been receiving treatment with anti-retrovirus. He also revealed that in comparison to the same period of the year 2015, there was a 23 per cent decrease in HIV/Aids positive cases, as a result of the sensitisation work and lectures taking place throughout the province.
