1. Regular Spraying of your home; inside and outside Regular fumigation of your home reduces the mosquito population in your house, this is called Indoor Residual Spraying. The outside of the building should also be sprayed. This should be done every three months but it is expensive. The Local Government Council usually has a unit that does the spraying at affordable cost. No mosquitoes, no malaria.
2. Your Blood Pressure The normal blood pressure is around 120/80mmHg; it is said to be high if it is consistently above 140/90mmHg and low if it is consistently below 90/60mmHg. High blood pressure can lead to stroke, heart attack, damaged blood vessels and damaged kidneys. You can check your blood pressure regularly, at home using various digital blood measuring apparatus which are available in chemists, in chemists/pharmacies or in medical clinics/hospitals.
3.Tomatoes Ward off Cancer Numerous studies have concluded that the more tomatoes people eat the lower their risks of certain cancers, especially lung, stomach and prostate cancers. A substance called lycopene, which is responsible for tomatoes’ red color, is thought to be the reason for this cancer protective effect. Processed tomatoes contain even more lycopene than raw ones. The process of cooking breaks down the cell walls, helping to release the lycopene. Eating tomatoes with a little bit of fat, such as olive oil, helps lycopene to be better absorbed by the body.
4.Be Specific Specify your resolutions; it is easy to say I will take more fruits and vegetables from now on. Specify the vegetables and fruits, how many times a week and the quantities.
5. Do baseline Medical/Dental Check up Check-ups become necessary once we hit the age of forty years but many of us do not really bother. Resolve this year to start your annual or bi-annual check-ups. The first check-up at whatever age after 40 will serve as the base-line; this will now be compared with subsequent ones. It does not cost much; do it within the first quarter.
6. Teenage Pregnancy One of the greatest problems of teenage females is teenage pregnancy; this is defined as pregnancy before the age of 20 years. This could be due to lack of experience, lack of knowledge, rape and other forms of sexual assault.
