HIV/AIDS is said to be on the retreat globally according the United Nations agency on AIDS, UNAIDS. The agency says about 15 million globally are on antiretroviral drugs and that new infections have declined by about 35 percent since the year, 2000; death from AIDS has also fallen drastically as well. UNAIDS officials say that if progress continues at this rate, the epidemic may soon disappear.

However there are about 37 million persons globally who are  HIV positive but only 15 million are on anti-retroviral drugs.
