Some of the journalists who covered the post election violence in Kenya about 7 years ago are still traumatized so says a recent study just published in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine.
A total of 57 journalists from two Kenyan media organization completed questionnaires; it was found that those who covered the violence still exhibited moderate symptoms of post traumatic stress disorders. These symptoms include nightmares, sleeplessness, flashbacks, difficulty in concentrating, over-vigilance, and irritability.
Those who had injuries have worse symptoms.
According to a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, Canada, Professor Anthony Feinstein, the lifetime prevalence of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for journalists who worked in conflict zones for over ten years is close to that of war veterans.
