KENYA will establish four regional cancer centres that will admit patients from neighbouring countries, President Uhuru Kenyatta said yesterday.

“In the spirit of African brotherhood, we shall open up the services at these centres to our brothers and sisters across the region,” he said.

Uhuru was opening the 9th Stop Cervical, Breast and Prostate Cancer in Africa conference at the KICC in Nairobi.

He said the special treatment centres would be constructed through a public private partnership.

The regional centres were first mooted in 2013 when the Ministry of Health released guidelines for medics to manage cancers.

Uhuru encouraged Kenyans to seek regular diagnosis for common cancers like breast and prostate to stop unnecessary deaths.
