The up-grading of the Machakos hospital to an Ultra-Modern Level 5 referral facility has played a big milestone to the improvement of health services in the County. Thousands of patients who in the past sought treatment of Cancer and other complications at the Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi will now receive such treatments at Machakos.

The hospital has now been fitted with Mammography Machines for breast screening, orthopantogram Machines and Anesthetic Machines, courtesy of the national Government. Other Machines installed include an Image Intensifier Machine for real time theater machines, operating tables with orthopedic extensions and LED operating lights and patient trolleys.

A ten-bed dialysis centre to provide renal services and an ICU unit of six Machines has also been set up. Speaking when he commissioned the up-grading of the hospital on Wednesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta said that the new Machines are expected to improve health services in the County significantly.

He said that the hospital would ease congestion of Cancer patients at the Kenyatta national hospital by providing the same services found in Kenyatta. “A lot of people have in the past lost their lives because of lack of proper medical attention and because they had to travel all the way to Nairobi to seek for treatment. This will now be a thing of the past”, he said.
