A total of 3,235 cholera cases and 65 deaths have been reported nationally since Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Health. In a statement, the Health ministry said 11 counties have been affected by the cholera outbreak since December 26, 2014. The counties are: Nairobi, Migori, Homa Bay, Bomet, Mombasa, Nakuru, Muranga, Kirinyaga, Baringo, Kiambu and Embu Counties.

Mulei Muia, director of communications at the Health Ministry said Migori, Homabay and Bomet Cholera outbreaks have been successfully controlled.

He said out of the affected counties, only eight have active outbreaks currently. The cases were nationally distributed as follows: Nairobi 371 cases, 16 deaths ; Migori 915 cases, 12 deaths; Homa Bay 377 cases, 5 deaths; Bomet 272 cases, 2 deaths;Mombasa 99 cases, 5 deaths;Muranga 567 cases, 4 death; Nakuru 210 cases, 16 deaths;Kirinyaga 253 cases,0 deaths and Kiambu 48 cases,2 deaths ;Embu 103 cases, 3 deaths. No other counties apart from those listed have reported cases since Wednesday last week.

Three new deaths have been reported in the last one week, five in Nairobi and one in Nakuru. “Cumulatively 326 new cases were reported in the last one week (97 in Muranga, 49 in Nakuru, 6 in Mombasa, 81 in Nairobi, 15 in Baringo, 49 in Embu, 6 in Kirinyaga and 10 in Kiambu)” he stated “This is an increase from the previous week where 226 new cases were reported,” he added.
