Inspite of being located in the North Central Zone of Nigeria which has the highest HIV infection rate, Kwara State still ranks about the lowest, the Chief Program Officer of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Tajudeen Arowolo, has said. He said this during a four day Free Medical Outreach organized by the agency in an Ilorin suburb.
During the medical outreach, people are screened, tested for HIV infection and given their results; those found positive are referred to the special clinic for the management of HIV/AIDS. According to Arowolo, several states in the country have benefitted from the free medical outreach including Kogi State where 19 people were picked up during such an exercise and referred to the appropriate clinics.
States with high HIV infection in the zone are Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory.
