According to the World Health Organization (WHO), late diagnosis of Lassa fever is the cause of the high mortality rate of the disease in Nigeria.

In a statement on Monday, WHO also gave an official breakdown of the number of Lassa fever cases in Africa and called on the Governments and stakeholders in affected countries to commit more resources for early diagnosis of viral diseases.
