 Maternal mortality: 700 women die yearly in Nasarawa – Health commissioner
The Commissioner for Health in Nasarawa, Dr Daniel Iya, said, while addressing newsmen in Lafia  that up to 700 women die yearly due to maternal mortality in the state,

and According to him, government is worried about the alarming rate of maternal mortality, hence the reason why efforts are on to improve services in all medical facilities across the state.
“Our efforts, as a government, is to make sure that all the 700 primary healthcare centers across the 13 local government areas and other medical facilities are repositioned towards curtailing the trend. “The maternal mortality rate in the state is higher than the national average in the country.” He also said the ministry has decided not to ban traditional medical practitioners in the state but sensitise them to offer better and safe services to patients. “We have directed them to form a union,” the commissioner said. In his words the government can easily trace such person,” He said. The commissioner therefore assured members of the public that the ministry would ensure that more quality persons are employed in order to reposition the health sector in the state.
