Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, will on Thursday be conferred with the Gold Medal Award of the Institute of Public Health, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife. The event is part of the fifth annual Professor Adetokunbo Lucas Lecture and Fundraising /foundation laying of the institute. According to the organisers of the award, the choice of Mimiko for the award was consequent upon the excellent record of successes by the governor in reducing maternal and child mortality in the state through various outstanding and unparalleled initiatives and giant steps in primary health care.
The renowned institute also singled out the state as a role model in view of the governor’s outstanding performance in the health sector. The Ondo State Government pioneered an all purpose Mother and Child Hospital in Akure and replicated it in Ondo, as the apex of its response to the for the reduction of infant and maternal mortality rate through the Abiye programme and most recently, the Agbebiye programme with a strong network of quick intervention at the grassroots.
