Chinese medical team working in Morocco has recently run a free clinic for local Chinese residents. Presently, there are about more than 1,000 Chinese in the North African nation, most of whom have chosen to stay in Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city. China has begun to dispatch medical teams to Morocco since 1975 on a bilateral agreement. For the past 40 years, more than 1,200 medical professionals have arrived in the country to serve the local, and help promote bilateral understanding between the two countries and their peoples.

The free clinic is part of a series of events the Chinese medical workers have organized to mark the 40th anniversary. Last month, the Chinese doctors also gave an interesting introduction about acupuncture, one of China’s most traditional medical therapies, to local students at the Confucius Institute at Mohammed University V capital Rabat.

The presentation was well received by the students, who came out of the classroom more interested in traditional Chinese medicine and culture. In 1986, Chinese acupuncturists set up a center in the city of Mohammedia, 50 km south of capital Rabat. Since then, doctors at the clinic have helped tens of thousands patients, and trained many local and European doctors.
