According to a new US guidance, mothers should introduce their babies to peanuts between the ages of 4 and 6 months in order to reduce the risk of allergy to peanuts.

However, the babies should not be given whole peanut to avoid choking but in small pieces or mashed or mixed with other foods.
Studies have shown that early exposure can cut down the risk of allergy to peanuts by about 80 percent in susceptible children.
The guidelines are based on research carried out in the United Kingdom and the United States of America as per the comments of the National Institute of allergy and Infectious Diseases and the European Acedemy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
