MP Urges Govt to Provide X-Ray Machines in Tanzania
Member of Parliament (MP) (CCM), Mr Jumaa Hamidu Aweso, has urged the government to ensure that it provides district hospitals with X-ray machines as patients are forced to walk long distances in search of such services. He appealed to the government to consider providing X-ray machines to the Pangani District Hospital where patients are compelled to seek services elsewhere.
Speaking on this,Deputy Minister in the President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government, Mr Selemani Jaffo, said the government will fast track the process to ensure Pangani gets the equipment at the earliest possible moment, and the Pangani District Council has applied for a 70m/- loan from theNational Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) for the purchase of the X-ray machines this financial year. He told the National Assembly that the application for a loan was due to the fact that the X-ray at the hospital needed maintenance after every three months since it is aged, and “We will ensure that the hospital gets the x-ray machines to help Pangani residents who travel to Bombo Referral Hospital in Tanga to get such services,” he said.
The minister said discussions are at an advanced stage with the NHIF so that the Pangani District Council gets a loan for purchasing the machine. He also appealed to district and municipal councils to set aside budgets for purchasing health equipment.
