The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) yesterday called on hospitals and pharmacies to ensure the proper disposal of expired drugs to prevent re-circulation of such products.

NAFDAC director in Jigawa State, Mr Olaniran Olakunle, spoke during the destruction and disposal of expired drugs and laboratory equipment at the Federal Medical Centre, Birninkudu.

He said some pharmacies and patent stores were fond of storing expired drugs carelessly, adding that any expired drug or food item consumed would be harmful to the body.

He commended FMC Birnin-Kudu for ensuring that the expired drugs and laboratory equipment were discarded properly, urging other hospitals and pharmacies to emulate them.
