7. Namibia: Breast, Prostate Cancer Rise
Although more and more survive cancer, prostate and breast cancer – the most common cancers in Namibia – have been on the rise since last year, experts say.

According to the Cancer Association of Namibia, 221 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer, while 331 people were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013. In 2014, however, this number increased to 271 for prostate and 479 for breast cancer. The chief executive officer of the Cancer Association of Namibia, Rolf Hansen, said skin cancer is also on the rise. “We had 350 people diagnosed with skin cancer in 2013 and in 2014, 430 were diagnosed. Yes, it is indeed worrisome. We had people diagnosed with cancer in Namibia over the past five years counted. There were 2 996 cases in 2013, and in 2014, there were 3 154. These numbers include blood and cervix cancer,” Hansen said. Over the past five years, skin cancer topped the list in Namibia, with 2 100 people diagnosed, followed by breast cancer at 1 685, then cervical cancer at 1 140 and lastly prostate cancer at 1 124.
