The National Health Insurance Scheme has announced the suspension of First Hospital and Maternity, Karu, Abuja, over alleged breach of some aspects of the guidelines for participation in the scheme.

Consequently, the hospital will no longer receive payments from NHIS nor attend to persons covered by the Scheme.

A statement on Thursday in Abuja by the Head, Media and Public Relations, NHIS, Mr. Ayo Osinlu, quoted the Acting General Manager, Standards and Quality Assurance, Dr. Kabiru Mustapha, as explaining that the decision was sequel to complaints about the facility, regarding the setting aside of NHIS-approved drug tariffs, thereby over-billing patients receiving care under the scheme.

“The NHIS has investigated and confirmed this to be true; the suspension remains pending the ability of the health care facility to engage a pharmacist or a nearby accredited pharmacy and revert to the NHIS approved drugs List.”
