Nigeria like other countries around the world celebrated World Pneumonia Day yesterday in Abuja, te political capital of the country. The World Health Organisation has aside the 12th day of November every day as Pneumonia Day, a day meant to create awareness about the day, its spread , the possible measures and all other means of combating the disease. Pneumonia together with measles, diarrhea, tetanus and malaria are the greatest killers of children under the age of 5 years in the developing countries of the world.

On its own, pneumonia is responsible for about 15 percent of all deaths in children under the age of 5 years globally.

This year’s celebration had its theme as “Enhancing Child’s health through Protection, Prevention and Treatment” ; the key note address  was given by the Director of The National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Ado Mohammed. and was co-sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline, the pharmaceutical giant.

The special guest of honour was the wife of the senate president, Mrs. Toyin Saraki.
