If Nigeria becomes polio free in 2017, she could subsequently save about N1.5 B annually; an amount that could be applied in other parts of the health sector. This was disclosed by the Ekiti State representative of the World Health Organization, Dr. Adeniji Adeyemi during the last Executive meeting of the Nigeria Medical Association.

It will be recalled that Nigeria Polio endemic free earlier this year after recording no case for one whole year and has to maintain that status for two more years to be declared polio free.

Savings could be from less vaccines, cost of treatment and rehabilitation of polio cases and labour loss.
