Ekiti Government has given landlords three months ultimatum to provide toilet facilities in their houses or face prosecution.
General Manager, Ekiti State Waste Management Authority (ESWMA), Mr Olajide Borode, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ado-Ekiti.
Borode said the state Governor, Ayo Fayose, gave the directive as part of government effort to curb the menace of indiscriminate open-defecation in the state.
“The state government has given house owners and prospective landlords just three months to provide toilet facilities.”Anyone, who refuses to provide toilet between December 2014 and February 2015 will be made to face the wrath of the law.
“Whoever fails to comply with this directive, especially those in the state capital and other major towns will be made to face the wrath of the law,” he said.
Borode described as worrisome, the practice by some residents, who dump their faeces in waste bins provided by government at strategic places .
He said the indiscriminate open defecation in unathorised places could cause outbreak of diseases if not checked.
