At least 40 people have been killed in floods in Katsina state in north-west Nigeria. Heavy rains late on Sunday caused a river in the town of Jibia to burst its banks. Local emergency services told the BBC that at one point water levels reached the roofs of houses. Thousands of properties were destroyed, while some of the victims were washed downstream and across the border into Niger. Their bodies are now being repatriated. Emergency accommodation is being offered at local schools.
