AS part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, CHI Limited, through its CSR arm, CHI Foundation, has commissioned the Ode Aye Unity Secondary College water project in Okitipupa Local Council of Ondo State.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the chairman of the foundation’s board of trustees, Reverend Oluranti Odubogun, said that the donation of the facility was part of the foundation’s bid to impact on the lives of the people and also to fulfill the corporate social responsibility of the organisation.

According to him: “It is heart-warming to note that the problem of inadequate potable water in Ode Aye will soon fade away as we commission the Ode Aye Unity Secondary College water project today. The subject matter of the project is a 60m deep borehole with a 2Hp submersible pump together with other facilities including, but not limited to, a 5,000 litre storage tank on a 4 meter steel tower; six dispense points; a 3.5 KVA generating set and a plant room.”

The Foundation, however, encouraged the community to take ownership of the facilities, urging them to take all reasonable measures to protect the facilities against misuse and vandalism.

“Rest assured, the foundation will continue to undertake projects aimed at bringing smiles to the faces of Nigerians. Having recently awarded contracts for similar projects to be undertaken at St. Saviour’s area in Isolo, Lagos State and

Afikpo, Ebonyi State, it is presently undertaking demographic studies on how best to intervene, particularly as it pertains to health and hygiene, in other states of the federation in the course of year 2015,” he added.

The Federation of Ode-Aye Development Association (FODA) has been at the fore-front of development in the Ode-Aye Community since the establishment of the association with branches in all the major cities in Nigeria.

In the heart of the town is the Unity Secondary School, which was formerly the Ode-Aye Teachers’ Training College. The College and the school, since establishment, have produced notable Nigerians who have been successful in their areas of professional interest. However, to the students and teachers in the school, water supply has always been a challenge. The only borehole, which is grossly inadequate to meet the potable water needs of the school community, was located at a long spot away from the main hostel.

To reduce the suffering of members of the school community, CHI Foundation through the initiative of the Federation of Ode-Aye Development Association (FODA) constructed a new borehole for the school community.

Guests at the event applauded CHI Foundation for providing the school community with such an important project, while promising to guard it jealousy.

The Chairman of CHI Foundation had earlier in his commissioning speech sought for the cooperation of the school community for the proper maintenance of the borehole facility. The Foundation promised to assist the school community to maintain the facility for two years. He said the project is a way of giving back to the community.

The President of FODA, Mr. Jones Ogunmusire thanked CHI Foundation for the gesture and solicited for more assistance from both sons and daughters of the community, including corporate organizations, towards the development of Ode-Aye.
