Jigawa State Governor Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar has approved the upgrade of Kazaure General Hospital to a specialist hospital, bringing the number of specialist hospitals in the state to three.

Dutse, the state capital, already has a specialist hospital while the government earlier approved the upgrade of the hospital in Hadejia.

The governor said yesterday while receiving the management staff of the Federal Medical Canter (FMC) Birnin Kudu led by the Chief Medical Director (CMD) Dr. Dauda Mohd Maigari that the upgrade was based on the priority his administration on provision of healthcare. This he said informed the recent decision to establish the of school of nursing and upgrade of the School of Health Technology, Jahun. The governor who described a healthy population as central to the development of any nation assured the management of FMC Birnin Kudu of his support, promising additional land and intervention on inadequate supply of electricity.

Earlier, the CMD said the centre was established in 1961 as a general hospital and one of the few federal health institutions that still operate from the old structure without provision for a new site or expansion.

He said despite the challenges, the management expanded the hospital from 120 to 240 beds.
