Kebbi State Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) centre has conducted surgical repair for over 2,000 cases in their 10 years of establishment among 11 VVF centres spread across the country.

The USAID Country Project Manager in-charge of Health, Dr Habib Sadauki, made this known when he led a Fistula care team on an inspection visit to the state centre and presented a certificate of recognition to the wife of the Kebbi State governor, Dr Zainab Bagudu, over the weekend in Birnin Kebbi.

“Out of the 11 VVF centres spread across the country, Kebbi State VVF centre is the only centre that has conducted surgical repair of over 2,000 cases in their 10-year-old of establishment.

“We have noticed a tremendous improvement in service delivery in the last three months which we attributed to the dedication of the resident surgeon, Dr Abubakar Dakingari.

“In Nigeria the estimated number currently is 150,000 to 200,000. About 12,000 new cases occur every year mostly in Northern Nigeria.

In her response, wife of the governor, Dr Zainab Bagudu, reassured that, she would work as a formidable team with the programme, particularly in community awareness programmes, nutritional support of the patients, empowerment and vocational training for women after undergoing repair.
