The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has promised that the Government will soon put in place measures to curb medical tourism, a refined terminology for overseas medical treatment. In the last couple of years this has become a drain the country’s scarce resources. According to some sources, Nigerians spend billions of US dollars annually on medical treatment in India, The United Kingdom, United States of America, Germany, Dubai and Israel for ailments that can easily be managed locally.

The minister intends to tackle this problem by strengthening the healthcare delivery system especially at the Primary Healthcare Level, equipping the tertiary healthcare facilities and the medical laboratories.
