Nigeria: Stakeholders Want Health Insurance in Informal Sector
Lagos — Stakeholders under the aegis of Health and Managed Care Association of Nigeria (HMCAN) and Healthcare Providers Association of Nigeria (HCPAN) have asked for legislative mandate that will extend the coverage of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to the informal sector so as to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The healthcare providers made the demand in a joint communiqué issued at the end of their meeting in Lagos. The communiqué which was jointly signed by HMCAN Chairman, Dr. Kolawole Owoka and HCPAN Chairman, Dr. Umar Sanda states that stakeholders from the two bodies have resolved to see to the functioning of the ideals of Universal Health Cover which emphasises access to qualitative and affordable healthcare services and equity with financial protection for all Nigerians.
