The Yobe State government is partnering Dangote and the Melinda and Bill Gates foundations to support and strengthen routine immunization across the state. Speaking during a meeting with the partners yesterday in Damaturu, Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Health, Alhaji Lawan Ali Gajerima, said immunization has remained one of the cost effective ways of saving lives and preventing illnesses. He said routine immunization coverage in Yobe is low despite public heath interventions.
“A lot could have been achieved by now, but the security situation is a huge challenge”, he said.
He inaugurated three technical groups for the exercise, adding, “state logistic working group is to meet monthly to coordinate operations and provide SPHCMB with rigorous and well considered advise on matters concerning vaccines supply chain management. The Social Mobilization Working Group will also coordinate social mobilization and community engagement activities”.
He said the groups will support the system so that all eligible clients with the vaccines can be reached.
